Arthritis Care

St. Michael's Hospital houses the multidisciplinary Martin Family Centre for Arthritis Care and Research. Several orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, physical and occupational therapists and nurses provide comprehensive care for patients suffering from arthritis.

All patients are seen by referral by family physicians or other specialists. Once a patient is seen in the clinic, their case is managed as needed by the rheumatology, orthopedic and allied health care providers. In addition to general rheumatology and orthopedic arthritis care clinics, there are specialty orthopedic clinics providing expertise in the management of foot and ankle disorders, spinal disorders, knee and hip disorders and upper extremity disorders.

Beyond our commitment to patient care, the program at St. Michael's Hospital is a major teaching centre for the University of Toronto and is involved in education of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents in all aspects of arthritis care. The Hospital is a leader in the education of arthritis within the University.

Another component is our commitment to basic science and clinical scientific research. Extensive ongoing research ranges from the study of molecular genetics in arthritic disorders to outcome measurement of arthritis care.
