Allan Waters Family Simulation Centre
The Allan Waters Family Simulation Centre is state of the art facility where students, health disciplines professionals, researchers, administrators and physicians can practice skills in a safe, realistic learning environment using high fidelity Human Patient Simulators, Virtual Reality and task trainers. Health care simulation involves a range of activities that share a similar purpose: to improve the safety, quality of care, Interprofessional Education, and effectiveness and efficiency of health care services.
The Centre has achieved a five-year accreditation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2020-2024). Accredited simulation programs are internationally recognized as leaders in simulation- based learning and educational research.
The Centre houses more than two million dollars in capital equipment and provides customized clinical training and educational sessions to more than 6000 internal and external healthcare professionals and students each year.
Our mission is to improve patient safety and quality of care by providing a safe learning environment to all patrons, interprofessionally and individually. We achieve this by offering quality simulation education and research opportunities, using a wide array of simulation modalities.
The Centre is situated within the Education Portfolio and is considered a strategic enabler that is accessible to SMH staff, physicians, educators, researchers and students. The AWFSC also welcomes booking requests from external parties.
